On Thursday we packed up and left for Memphis when Brandt got off of work.  I had looked up the weather and it was supposed to be rainy Thursday but sunny and around 75 degrees the rest of the weekend.  I packed shorts and shirts for everyone and we were all super excited to go visit Grandma Barb and go to the Memphis Zoo. As we were leaving the house I grabbed a sweater for everyone just in case it was chilly in the mornings.

On Friday when we woke up it was about 46 degrees, cloudy, and rainy.  It stayed that way all day and never got over 50 degrees….  We changed our plans and went to the Memphis Fire Museum.  It was really neat.  They had lots of hands on stuff for the kids to do and see.  There was an area for kids to practice sliding down a fire pole, they could dress up in a uniform, and could pretend drive a truck or put out fires. They even had a little video about a house fire where the room would heat up while you watched it, and it showed kids how the smoke fills a room etc.  Oh… and I can’t forget the arcade that had games about what to do in different cases with fires.

After the Museum we went out to lunch at the “Happy Mexican” restaurant and then came home for naps. Later on we went out for a walk my the Loraine Hotel.  After all the questions Covey had on Martin Luther King day, we had to go by there.  It was a super fun day!

Saturday when we woke up I went downstairs to start making breakfast when Covey came running over and said “Mom, it’s snowing!”  I just replied “There is no way it could be snowing” without even looking up. (He has been trying to trick us a lot lately)  Then Grandma said “He’s right”.  I looked out the window and sure enough there were snow flurries.  They continued to fall most the morning.  I cannot believe how wrong the weather forecast was that I looked up before packing!!! We decided to try out the Memphis Children’s Museum (CMOM) that day.

I really enjoyed that museum!  It had lots of things for the kids to do.  Even Phoenix had a great time.  There was a little FedEx plane in there that kids could learn how packages are loaded and unloaded, a fishing area, a Kroger Grocery store where kids could buy fake groceries and print the receipts, a rock wall, and so much more.  We stayed there for several hours and promised the kids that we will go back there next time we visit Memphis.  I will say though, that they were doing an Easter egg hunt when we went.  I thought I would go ahead and do that with the kids.  NEVER AGAIN!  I got stuck in a mob of people and couldn’t even move 6 inches in either direction, then when the kids got in there, there wasn’t any eggs left.  Definitely not worth it, I will do a nice laid back egg hunt at home if I want to instead.

That night we spent time at home and played some card games with the kids.  Grandma Barb taught them Old Maid, and they taught her the Angry Birds card game.  We then had a movie night after all the kids were bathed, and watched Big Hero 6.  I think that was my favorite day of the trip.

Sunday was Sunny and warm!!! We got up and went to church with Barb.  I love how the church is the same no matter where you go.  My kids kept asking me what it would be like, and I could easily tell them that they would go to primary and their normal classes, and just make new friends.  Once we got there they quickly pointed out “We have been here before mom!”

After church we ate a small lunch and went out for a walk in the nice weather.  We walked down over by the Mississippi River and then came home to pack up and eat dinner.  It was a great trip and we can’t wait to go back again!
